The Alumni Society of the University of Lucknow will celebrate the foundation day of its alma meter on November 25, amidst much fanfare and gaiety. Also, 10 prominent alumni members will be felicitated on the occasion, including Supreme Court judge Brajesh Kumar; secretary bio-technology, Government of India, Manju Sharma;senior journalist Vinod Mehta; from the world of music Rajendra Mehta; sportsperson Meena Shah; director general of radar communication, Air Marshal RK Gupta; Dr. Naresh C Trehan from the Escorts Heart Hospital and Research Centre; theater personality Bheem Sain; litterateur Manohar Shyam Joshi and social anthropologist Prof. Imtiyaz Ahamad, JNU. After a request made by the alumni society, the vice-chancellor of Lucknow University has agreed to declare November 25 as the foundation day by approving it through the Lucknow University executive council. The alumni society's executive body members also held a meeting with Lucknow University officials on Monday, during which it decided that the campus would be spruced up for the occasion and arrangements made for lighting and decoration. While the vice-chancellor agreed to allot a room for the office of the alumni society on the campus, the society in turned offered to construct four rooms in the Lucknow University guest-house. The function will now be held in the Malviya hall on campus. Chancellor of state universities Vishnukant Shastri, would be the chief guest on the occasion. The secretary of Lucknow University Alumni Society, A K Srivastava said that soon, the alumni society would start a counselling cell for the students of Lucknow University. Those who participated in the meeting at Lucknow University on Monday included Lucknow University V-C Prof SB Singh, Pro V-C Prof MP Singh, other Lucknow University officials and faculty members, Mayor S C Rai, President of the Alumni Society Ram Kumar Bhargava, and president of the Oudh Bar Association, Ashok Nigam and others.
