Re: Divorced Parents Disclosure?

Spent time this weekend looking at college websites, and noted that
many ask for something called the "divorced parents disclosure" (I may
have the lingo wrong) in addition to the FAFSA and Profile. What is
this?

The CSS/Profile supplied version is called the Non-Custodial Parent Supplement. Even in the case of divorce/separation some colleges consider that the other parent is still a parent whose finances (and any new spouse's finances) should be considered. It will have no affect on the Federal EFC from the FAFSA, but it will affect eligibility for college controlled funds like work-study, SEOG, Perkins Loans, and their own need-based grants and scholarships.

Will the calculators at Finaid.org and elsewhere allow us to
calculate expected family contribution including this form?

No. Each college that uses this extra info will have it's own way of using the additional data.

How many colleges require this form?

Not a lot, mostly just some of the most competitive private colleges.

Does his mean some colleges expect contributions from FOUR adults: two natural parents plus two step-parents??

They will consider the financial situation of all four when determining eligibility for college-controlled need-based aid.

Thanks for any input.
