If I can draw a conclusion from your two posts, you are applying as a
transfer student.

Transfers are judged by a different set of criteria than freshmen
applicants. Professional experience in your intended major field assumes
greater importance. Demonstrations of maturity, persistence, and an
improvement in your grades, study skills, and overall attitude are higher in
importance than they are for the initial entry applicants.

Having said that, I believe there was a place on the transfer application
for information on your parents, and one of those facts was where they
attended college.

However, alumni parents at Berkeley do not carry the same weight as alumni
parents at, say, Swarthmore or any private college. It may give you a tiny
boost, but no more than those who will be the first from their family to
attend college, perhaps less.

At this point, don't obsess over the alumni parents...make sure the rest of
your application is complete and that your essay is polished. And, if your
parents entered any of the application information online, they may have put
it in without you seeing it.

I'd suggest applying to several of the UCs...remember that UCLA, UCSD, and
UCSB all have Nobel Laureates too. And Davis and Irvine are hardly shabby.
All six of these are ranked in the top 50 by US News, and Santa Cruz and
Riverside are ahead of most state universities in the survey as well.

Good luck and please let us all know how you do in your applications!
