Re: Mystery Zeiss Lamphouse 250 Collector

Really, that's interesting, thanks.

For that lamphouse I have sockets and bulbs for CSI250, HBO200, and a
homebuilt 100W halogen. Is there any way of telling which lens was
designed for each bulb? All of the lens sets are unmarked (as far as part
numbers are concerned).

Since as far as the microscope is concerned, I imagine the main difference
between the bulbs would be filament/arc size. The CSI250 and HBO100 sit at
either end of the arc size spectrum: the CSI has a very large arc size (5.0
x 2.5 mm^2), while the HBO100 is expectionally small (0.25 x 0.25 mm^2).

The HBO200 and XBO150 are similarily sized (0.6x2.2mm^2 and 0.5x2.2mm^2
respectively).

I'm guessing that the smaller the arc is, the closer you would want the
bulb, so the lens I have which sits the lenses so far away may be for the
CSI250.

Are you sure about the bulbs requiring different collectors? Two ex-Zeiss
dealers I'm spoke with couldn't remember any other collectors than the
quartz and "normal" collector being listed in their literature. Is it
possible that they were available but not But you've definitely given me
something to think about.

In this page of their literature it shows the various parts required
(sockets, heatsinks, etc) for the different lamps:

It's strange that they do not mention the other collectors that were
available, even though it seems they might be necessary to account for the
difference in arc sizes between bulbs like the CSI and the HBO100.

Thanks again,

Kevin
