Dear Colleagues: This is a reminder that titles are needed for talks at the up coming AAMSDG Summer in November Symposium. I also need to know how many people are planning on attending so that I can make sure I have sufficient food. Please E-mail me this information by Friday 10/31. The sixth Atlanta-Athens Mass Spectrometry Discussion Group "Summer" Symposium will be held on Wednesday-Thursday November 5-6, 2003. We are maintaining the two-day format started last year. The first day will focus on proteomics/protein characterization, and the second day will be our normal general session. This meeting will start sometime after lunch on 11/5 and will be held in the auditorium of the new Complex Carbohydrate Research Center (CCRC) at the University of Georgia, Athens GA. The new CCRC is located approximately a quarter of a mile passed the old CCRC. It is the first building on the left side of the Riverbend Rd (address 315). We expect topics to range over all aspect of mass spectrometry. Our goal is to provide a friendly environment for researchers to present their data and to promote interactions between MS groups in the Southeast. Last year approximately 80 scientists attended. You are invited to make a 20 minute oral presentation at this meeting. Time allotments will depend upon on the number of speakers. Although we welcome presentations by everyone, we would particularly like to encourage "younger" mass spectrometrists (i.e., students, post-doctoral fellows, etc.). If you would like to contribute we would appreciate a response (title and authors) by October 30. This symposium is free of charge to participants and includes meals (coffee/donuts in the morning, lunch, snacks at the afternoon break, and post-meeting reception). All of the expenses for this meeting are being paid for by AAMSDG from money acquired through our corporate sponsors: Amersham Pharmacia Biotech, Applied Biosystems, Thermo Finnigan Corporation, Micromass, Inc., JEOL USA, Inc., Bruker Daltonics, Genomic Solutions, and Alcott Chromatography. Corporate sponsors of AAMSDG are also welcome to participate in this symposium (free of charge) through poster and oral presentations. Please contact me if you would like to reserve space for a poster. Please pass information on to fellow coworkers. If you have any questions, comments, or need help with travel plans (directions, hotel reservations - I can get a special UGA discount on your hotel, etc.) please feel free to contact me by telephone, fax or E-mail. Sincerely, Ron Orlando
