Re: OR Society/OR Grps/OR Bodies

INFORMS does not offer accreditation nor formal training (though the tutorials at the conferences are certainly very informative!). The best conference for staying up to date (in my somewhat biased opinion) is the INFORMS Practice Conference, held every spring. In the UK, the ORS does both training and certification. Certification in particular comes up periodically in INFORMS discussions.

The name "OR" seems to be used less, being replaced by things like analytics, optimization, or quantitative xxx (for lots of choices of xxx). So (again IMSBO), while the use of the skills of OR is at an all time high, the name OR is less common (Tom Cook, the current President of INFORMS has developed a pretty impressive plan to try to offset this).

So, I think the future of OR is very bright: we as a field are just getting too good at solving problems of practical interest to be ignored.

Are there similar groups in the USA?

Does INFORMS offer courses, and accredition of/for OR practicioners?

Is there some useful info on this?

I was curious to know how the future of OR looks. Recently I came to
know from a friend of mine, a recent OR graduate from a good US
school, saying that there are not many takers of OR in the industry,
and ultimately he had to settle with a job in Mkt Res./Data
Analyst/Statistics. Though Stat also comes in OR, however truly
speaking.....

Does future of OR look good or bad?

Any takes on the matter....

Dave.

Hello all

I am a working profesional, and was eager to know if there are
professional OR grps/bodies which I can join/attend their
workshops/seminars.

Are there ways with which professionals can keep themselves updated
with the latest in OR area? Are there univ which offer accredited
online courses/etc.?

I hope there are certain leads from the readers.

Thanks, and Regds
Dave.

The UK OR Society can be found here http://theorsociety.com/ other such organisations can be found here http://www.orsoc.org.uk/about/other.htm
