There are plenty of books and web pages on nonlinear dynamics today.
I like E.Ott: Chaos
Also, the Nonlinear FAQ by Jim Meiss.
But the best thing is to take some equation and start playing with it.

Yes, I like Mathematica.
It was slow, but it's getting better (the code is better
and today's processors are faster).
