I am always amazed with reasons given why America should not metricate. Some mysogenists, I presume, cite human dimensions of USC units totally forgetting that half their number cannot relate to 30cm feet and inch wide thumbs. Others display an arrogance that makes Yank bashing an understandable offence. That arrogance prompted America after 1945 to foist their outdated measuring system on a world that realised 200 years ago that there is a better way to measure all things. After 1945 hungry and devastated nations refused US financial incentives (bribes)to adopt USC as the official UN measurements. Aviation was not so lucky that's why the world has to fly in outdated measurements today. Whether cumbersome measurements, or a deeper malaise is responsible for America's astronomical foreign debt, I let staunch defenders of medieval units ponder about.
