Uh - I'm not expert, but there are some bacteria that can only survive in liquid water. That would be my guess. I wash my lens cases in hot tap water, then clean with Miraflow, then with saline. I thought that the alcohol in Miraflow is effective against acanthamoeba. I also remember the instructions for a B&L lens case said to either rinse in an MPS, saline, or hot tap water - then let air dry.
