Re: You can't just wash that asbestos right out of your bed

I am sorry to hear about your brother, really. I also work in an industry,
where insulation is an absolute must. Consequently, asbestos is still around
in abundance.
Does that mean I will get asbestosis?
Many of my work mates have retired and some have even died. To the best of
my knowledge, none of them due to mesothelioma or asbestosis, though other
forms of cancer have been the cause in 2 cases.
Asbestos, if covered up and treated with the respect it deserves is not a
health hazard. The problem arises only once unqualified people attempt to
restore older buildings and tear parts containing asbestos down, rather
than using a qualified asbestos removalist. In our plant, asbestos removal
is a continuous job done by a specialist team.
Of course doing the job the way Mr. Average would do will cause problems.
Qualified asbestos removalists will charge money.
There are rules (in my country at least) of how asbestos may be removed.

In all of our history, there have been advances in technology, which later
proved to be a double edged sword. Asbestos is one of them. Going back to
the original post, it's still a troll by either a "would be developer" or a
firm of lawyers.

A unique feature of asbestos-related injuries is the long latency period
between exposure to asbestos and the onset of the injury or disease. For
mesotheliomas, the latency period is between 15 and 50 years, or more. That
means that a person could have been exposed to asbestos 50 years ago, and
develop mesothelioma today. The average mesothelioma latency period is
approximately 35 - 40 years.

I personally have better things to do (like living) than to worry I might
get mesothelioma in 30 - 40 years. I am almost 60 now anyhow. :-)

I disagree with you. Walter is doing nothing of this sort, he is pointing
out the BS in the post, nothing more nothing less.

The problems of asbestos have been known for much longer than that.
Regulations and rules have been passed
by OSHA of how to deal with asbestos. But there is such as thing as
"economics". How much is feasable and reasonable to
eliminate a hazard.

Reading past post of Walter, he is anything but behind times. His comments
are often short and to the point, but insightful. He does not suffer fools
gladly. .
This concludes this subject for me.

Frank
