Why Is Penicillin Allergy More Common Than Other Antibiotic Allergies?

I've noticed that penicillin allergy seems to be more commonplace than allergies to other classes of antibiotics like macrolides and quinolones.

Why is that? Is it just because since it was discovered first, penicillin is prescribed so frequently? Or is there something peculiar about the penicillin molecule that makes it more likely to cause an allergic reaction from a human immune system?
