| That is a rather *callous* statement, Water spider especially as soldiers
gave
| their lives for people they don't even know.

Very few, except kamikazes and suicide bombers, give their lives willingly
for what they think is the greater good. Do you remember what it felt like
to be 20? 18? You were invincible. A year was an eternity. You were not
concerned about death because it was so distant from your life at the
moment. Hormones and good health, a need to belong and be recognized by
society, to be an adult. Fight for your country, yeah! Even in the Korean
war there were Americans and Canadians who were only 14 years old, fighting
and dying in the mud on a foreign shore. And children are still fighting and
dying in the Middle East, today.

War itself is a sickness caused by the callousness of egotistical and
power-mad political leaders. It should never be glorified. Think of all the
young men who died, bravely fighting for their "freedom" in WWI. If it were
possible to bring them back, today, here and now, for a look at what their
death accomplished, can you honestly believe that any one of them would say,
"oh yeah, that was a really swell idea." Rather, they might see that their
willingness to be brainwashed into offering themselves as human sacrifices
encouraged others to do so, and perhaps they would feel regret for the other
deaths that they contributed to causing.

Just rambling, no fight wanted... don't know if this makes sense to you or
not, but it's my thoughts on the subject. Probably be clearer if I had a bit
of caffeine in my system this a.m. It's sunny here, hope you're having a
nice California fall day. Cooler weather must make for happier horses.
