I have allergies, can I keep a hamster in the room?

Hello,

I have quite strong skin allergies (to house dust, to some food, small
allergy to cats etc.) and atopia, do you know if I can keep a hamster in my
bedroom without making my condition worst? It would be ofcourse kept in a
cage for the most of the time but my condition is rather bad at the moment
and I would like to know if it would be safe for me.
