antiretroviral treatments (also in relation to problems of continuity); 
(3) viable strategies for the prevention and treatment of opportunistic 
infections; (4) the control of coinfections (viral hepatitis and other 
sexually transmitted infections, intestinal infections and parasitoses, 
tuberculosis, malaria, leprosy); (5) the state and prospects of research 
into antiretroviral vaccines; (6) viable strategies for the permanent 
training of health care workers; (7) problems relating to the 
accessibility and availability of vaccines for bacterial and viral 
infections, of antiretroviral drugs, as well as of drugs for associated 
pathologies (including palliative treatments); (8) the global impact of 
the epidemic in terms of mortality, breakdown of the national social and 
productive fabrics, dynamics and temporal forecasts within the human 
contexts; and (9) the connections among the scientific, social and 
political aspects aiming at translation of purposes into action. The 
ultimate aim of this meeting is to find a constructive answer to 
fighting HIV in poor-income countries.

the "nuts and bolts" of grantwriting, they will also offer helpful tips 
and suggestions. Participants will learn how to (1) set up a process in 
their organization to identify new funding sources and respond in a less 
stressful manner to funding notices; (2) use data and other information 
to describe the local HIV/AIDS epidemic, target populations, and their 
need for services; (3) develop clear and concise service goals, 
objectives, and workplan; (4) describe their program and proposed 
services; (5) prepare a realistic budget and budget narrative; (6) 
design a sound evaluation plan; (7) ensure that all the pieces of their 
proposal work together; and (8) establish and maintain good 
relationships with current and prospective funders.
