I'd say that generally speaking the term "sprog" is a derogatory one, but context as always is vital. In your context though it definitely *is* derogatory: "But the general opinion was good riddance to bad rubbish, 'cos he must have been full of bad seed to spawn a sprog like Tom". In this context I reckon you could replace "sprog" with "bastard" or "worthless piece of shit", etc. Regards Nick
