I didn't ask, I dislike cell phones and have no interest.  I wasn't 
suggesting she rent, actually, only that the store would likely have 
encountered the email question before (dealing with Japanese computing 
in New York and advertising a cell phone service as they do) and would 
be obliged to answer potential customers about what's possible.  I agree 
with your other suggestion as well, but have nothing worth mentioning to 
add to it as I did to the store related one.
