I'm trying to find out why a Lanczos window is often used for sinc

Hamming or Hanning window? Does the Lanczos window have some magical
properties that make it specially suitable for images?

Thanks,

Wow!!! I dont know about the other NG, but very few of us in R.P.D. have any clue what you are taling about.

To many of us, interpolation is just a sleazy trick by a few fringe
camera makers to pump up their Mp ratings

Interpolation is a useful technique. I recall using it in math classes back before calculators that gave answers to 8 digits. It made it possible to use a 4 place logarithm table and get useful answers to 4 places, even after multiplying.

The same usefulness applies to photographs. While interpolation doesn't give exactly what a higher resolution sensor would give, it does approximate it very well, in most cases.
