For what its worth, I know someone in the UK Marines who went for the Garmin Geko 201. His main consideration was size and weight, because of the reliance on marching from A>B. He wasn't too worried about the AAA battery issue because he was looking for something to give occasional confirmation of position, not constant logging. Other considerations were: - making ABSOLUTELY sure there was no chance of the backlight coming on accidently at night. - robust and waterproof. - in hindsight he would have preferred the 301 but bought the 201 because of time constraints. - size. The 301 was preferred because it would give a quick indication of which way to run from a static position (electronic compass) and its a bit more discreetly coloured (grey). The 201 got a custom paint job in the end for Iraq! Cheers, Les.
