Fingerprinting of gold

A newspaper article on tracing-back the origin of gold micro-samples:

The last sentence of the paper reads as follows: 

"A report into gold fingerprinting will be out by the end of Nov. 2003.
Criminals and crime fighters all around the world will wait with
interest".

...I am also waiting, although not among the criminals and crime fighters...
