On a recent trip into the John Muir Wilderness (Fresno county , Ca.)I found an old old mine near Grassy Lake / Jackson Meadow below timber line at about 9.5k ft. The mine is located via pack trail, appx 16 miles from the nearest road (Mammoth). There are 3 old log cablins, one possibly the dynamite house. Empty. The surrounding country is all granite. It appears that ore was being removed from a narrow deposit, (vein?) perhaps 8 ft wide, granite on both sides and every where else all the way to the horizons. Judging by the size of the tailing pile, the work was not extensive. I found some samples in the tailings with a rich blue color. Very pretty. Photo's available. I'd like to know more about how old the site is, what was mined and who the miners were, the history of the operation in short. I believe the claim is still held as there appears to be evidence of cabin maintenance but no sign of work on the ore. Please email if possible: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks Phil
