First, there appear to be at least three light sources in various places across the image. This would have the effect of eliminating shadows in some areas and in others causing shadows to appear to be in the 'wrong' spot. Human vision is used to only one light source (sun). Second, the image is in compressed .jpg format. This is a lossy format that reduces image information in exchange for a reduction in file size. This has the effect of creating compression artifacts, especially around edges and in areas of low contrast. This could be what makes the man appear to have a "cut & paste" look to him. Now, what surprises me most about the image is that people actually went INSIDE this cavity!!!! That must have been an erie feeling to know you are inside this cavern hundreds of feet underground that was just recently formed by a nuclear bomb. A definate E-ticket thrill. Brian
