Trouble is all the software I can find is at ridiculous prices for an individual and do so many things that I don't require (and mostly don't so what I actually want in a simple way). I am not working professionally - just an amateur/part time student who wants to tart up notes from field observations and measurements and to use in assignments. All I need is something where I can enter the thickness of beds, rocktype, contact type, sedimentary structures, broad fossil types found and notes (preferably via an Excel sheet or an Access database or similar) and let it generate a lithological column and graphic log. I may see if I can put together a symbol library for something like SmartDraw so that you can just drag and drop the symbols and then stretch to scale - but it shouldn't be too difficult to produce a simple program that is suitable for student diagrams/personal use .... I am just surprised there isn't one out there already. Cheers Carol
