Snow Blankets Iowa

Des Moines, December 3rd, 2003 - The first winter storm of the season has
dropped almost a foot of snow on parts of Iowa. The storm brought with it
slick streets and school closings to make this morning a challenge for all.

The heaviest snow fell in a band from Spencer in northwest Iowa, to Webster
City, Fort Dodge and Boone in central Iowa. Spencer, reported about ten
inches of snow overnight

Dozens of minor wrecks were reported in the Des Moines area. Police were
busy keeping traffic moving but it was a slow commute this morning. No
roads were closed but slick surfaces had Interstate traffic slowed to a
crawl.

No serious injuries or deaths had been reported. The snow is expected to
taper off to flurries by this afternoon.
