It's always a battle, it seems, getting clients to understand that you
don't cheap out on VDAs. I haven't done any systems work for a few
years, but I had that battle with a client in the late 80's, and after
he did things his way for a year, he finally took my advice, replaced a
Sony SEG switcher with a Ross, and put in a Leitch sync and test gen,
and Leitch DAs. A few months of operation later, he told me it was
easily the best investment he'd made, and wished he'd listened to me in
the first place.
