If your surveyed lot is in a subdivision (housing development) then the 'found mon' will likely be what is referrenced on the face of the recorded plat. This are the control points that that the surveyor used to help determine your boundary; the rest is trig, law, and experience. If you are not in a formal plat, then the "mon" will refer to the section corner or other monument (as required and called out by description/deed of your land) to properly develop the boundary thereof. These can be any number of distances apart. If you are west of the MISS., then likely it is one of a number of corners set by government surveyors in the 1800s.
