TOPCON GTS303D/ TDS communication problems

Hey all,
We just got a GTS 300 series (303d) and we are not able to get it to talk to
the TDS (or vice versa).  We have tried every setting for all instruments in
the TDS.  We are usuing 1200 even com settings, and have the Topcon supplied
cable (hirosi connector and 9pin).  Topcon is set for reading slope distance
and HA1 as directed in the manual.

Are we missing something?
