I don't recall the specified period, but WHMIS _does_ require periodic updates, or at least reviews of the MSDS. My Canadian contacts are very uncomfortable if they have an MSDS with a date more than 3-5 years old. And the date of last review is required on the document, unlike the US situation, where it is merely a nice thing. The WHMIS regulations are available on-line, if you want to look for them.
