Re: Is monitor radiation slowly cooking me?

I read in sci.engr.electrical.compliance that JohnB <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
wrote (in <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>) about 'Is monitor
radiation slowly cooking me?', on Sun, 19 Oct 2003:

UL 60950 and its relatives, AFAIK. The only *proven* threat is from X-
rays and that has been know for years and there are strict requirements.

Other emissions, low-frequency magnetic fields, are *alleged* to need
control, but the evidence of actual pathological effects is lacking. The
'precautionary principle' has been applied, largely due to the efforts
of the Swedish trade-union TCO, and many monitors world-wide are made to
conform to TCO requirements. A Google search for 'TCO' would probably
tell you more than you ever wanted to know.

To make the matter clearer, pathological effects of sitting in front of
a monitor have certainly been demonstrated, but the observed effects are
very likely caused by poor posture, long periods of intense
concentration and general stress. At least, that's what my own problems
are caused by!

It will be interesting to learn whether LCD monitors 'cause' the same
effects, because their emissions are totally different from those of CRT
monitors. But I suspect they DO cause the same effects, because the
effects are not due to magnetic fields at all.
