Re: You can't just wash that asbestos right out of your bed

The Stancic NYC school asbestos scandal was over plaster-born
asbestos. The average construction worker gets out the same time as
most school: No one ever told them to stay off the bus; I'd bet the
kids get more asbestos from these labor union types than they did from
school walls. Goes to show the hypocrisy of the whole thing. Then
again, I'd bet those kids had worse walls at home than in their
schools! Also the NYC LiverHole DumbOClucks shoot themsleves in the
foot with histroric preservation and rent controls - other USA cities
have eliminated most of their asbestos already. There is very little
logical thinking wrt asbestos. You have two fanatical extremes and no
one willing to find the truth; One extreme feeds the other and this is
the greatest risk: Some people think "it's nothing" precisely because
those who think it's so totally horrible have gone overboard.

As to the level of exposure: if one fiber has a probabilty of
sparking cancer, then one hundred fibers have a probability of maybe a
hundred times worse (there are other issues, like Bayesian probability
- I'm simplifying). The number I seem to have seen out of Mt Sinai
15yrs ago was 50% probability of cancer for under 1000/cc for 20hr/wk
for 20yrs. 500/cc is like a snowstorm. Moreover the "white" Vermont
asbestos found in NYC plaster is like 100 times less dangerous than
the "blue" South African asbestos which is found on skyscraper
ceilings and steam pipes (has to do with fiber's aspect ratio).
