Both were wild cats and I have never seen factory round in those.. I can hand load several rounds that beat that but not a factory round . If they produce it and I handload it I would imagine getting up to 4,400 or 4,600 but barrel life would be way limited I would think...
Try 2-3000 rounds at best. It's a throat-burner. The discussions about this round in its wildcat form are basically "go .17 Remington or .22-250 and get some barrel life, because this is harder than .20PPC on the gun"
~3800 fps is the maximum limit for lead projectiles if you want good barrel life due to the metals, projectiles, and current powders. They should be concentrating on one-upping the .223 - say a 6mm/308 with 3600-3800fps. If they used tin or aluminum, they likely could push it faster, but then it would be armor piercing.
Oh - wait - the 6mm/30-30 and 6mm/308(Ackley IIRC) DO that already. Of course, Remington admitting that Winchester makes the round they want - well, you get the picture.
Sure it will sell - until people realize that once you pass the speed of sound in tissue, it's meaningless - you've already reached the maximum damage potential. Anything in the bullet's path is destroyed outright. Beyond this point, all you are doing is wearing your barrel out. IIRC, it's abour 2800fps.
