People on sci.chem stopped wondering about it in 1994.  GGS it.  It
always looked to me like asbestos mixed with epoxy when I saw it on
TV.  I don't know how much insulation you need to keep an egg safe
from a blowtorch -- probably enough people don't to make it work as a
curiosity.  Generates some buzz, people ask questions, then ...
profit.
