What is the best edition of Darwin's Origin of Species? Ideally, I'd like a book perhaps edited by a famous evolutionist containing perhaps a few essays by other biologists, and maybe running commentaries by them. Also, the book should contain plenty of illustrations (color and b/w) and diagrams of the organisms Darwin studied. It should include illustrations done by the artist that traveled with Darwin on his voyage, and illustrations done by today's artists. (I'm thinking of illustrations of the quality found in the book "Mammoths, Sabertooths, and Hominids") Any diagrams should be appropriate to the text (naturally) but through the lense of a modern biologist. It should perhaps end with a historical science essay(s) and a philosophical essay(s) of Darwin's impact and what the Origin of Species means. Perhaps an essay on the discovery of DNA. Is there such a book? If not, what is the closest thing? Please, no smart-*ss creationist-like replies. thanks guys.
