As your quotes show, there are many unanswered questions in
this area of biology. Why would you expect there to be
a research field that had all the answers?

Physicists are no more expert in off-the-wall woo-woo
theories than anybody else. More likely, you're afraid
that if you'd posted in a biological newsgroup, you'd
have a chance of running into someone who knew something
about morphogenesis and would be able to answer the
question you posed. Safer to walk into a group full
of physicists, professional and amateur, and ask them
a biological question. Less likely to get an answer.
