Help identify this moth

http://home.comcast.net/~jnrigg/index.html

Nashville, Tennessee. Picture taken in late September in late evening. I apologize for quality. I was too close to use flash (and also for the blurriness). The moth was near a porch light which added a little greenish tint. The moth was approximately 1 1/2" wingspan and about 1/2" to 3/4" long in body length.

I have only an elementary guide to butterflies and moths and cannot find this in the guide.

I note what look like bumps or almost short spikes coming out of the back of the body (at least 6 are visible). Is this any help in identifying the species (I cannot find this characteristic on any of the moths in my simple little guide) -- or is this a feature that disappears with age?

I also apologize if the photo and/or the web site is/are not adequate. This is my very first attempt to create a web site and I may have lots to learn yet.

Replies to this newsgroup preferred. My email address is purposefully "munged" (remove the "X" if you want to email me directly).
