Key Porter Books (Toronto) is looking for photos for a new book that
I'm writing for them. This is the same publisher that published my
book, "A World for Butterflies: their lives, future and behavior," in
2000.
The new book is titled "The King of North America: saving the Monarch
of the New World" and is, in its most basic sense, about conservation
issues that are of concern to the Monarch throughout its breeding
range. One of the main precepts of the text is that while it is
acknowledged that issues at overwintering roosts may have effects on
the success of breeding populations it is equally true that roost
recruitment depends on breeding success. In other words, I believe
that we also need to "clean our own doorstep!" The book is a
fund-raising effort on behalf of World Wildlife Fund, Canada and will
be published in Canada in Spring, 2004. I don't believe that Key
Porter has a distribution/republishing agreement for a US publisher
yet but we believe that this will happen.
We are looking for photos of all life history stages throughout the
breeding range. The book is intended for a general audience so a
certain predilection for "pretty" photos will, I hope, be understood.
Nonetheless, photos that may illustrate conservation or population
issues will receive special consideration. Please note that due to the
intent of the book (fund raising for WWF) we would prefer that
photographers provide one-time reproduction permission for a copy of
the book.
Please contact Phil Schappert ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) for further
information. Many thanks for your consideration of this request.
