Yes to both questions.

Maybe, maybe not. I believe many of us would agree from my 2002 photos 
http://www.saber.net/~monarch/elrosarneil2.jpg that the forest at El Rosario 
is still dense and whatever thinning may have taken place in recent decades 
has been minor.
