It is highly likely that the architects of Stonehenge knew about it as well. The oldest feature of Stonehenge is a circle of 56 pits, which are thought to have been used to predict eclipses. Three Saros cycles are very close to 56 years, and it is every *third* eclipse in the cycle which can be seen at the same place on earth, since the 8 hr. increment rotates each successive eclipse in the cycle 120 deg. around the earth.
