I depends how you define satellites.

Here are some guestimates

Fully functioning sats in low earth orbit (400 - 2000 km up)? Probably
only a few hundred.
Fully functioning sats in geosynchronous orbit? Probably hundreds.

All bits of junk around the Earth (dead satellites, spent rocket bodies,
various bits of debris big enough to be tracked and classified, etc)?
Nearly 28,000.
