As with less than perfect seeing, one can make allowances for a scope that has
not cooled and enjoy it as it is.

In winter, that's a fact of life for me. Since I live in an apartment, I have no choice but to store my scopes indoors. Going from 20 degrees C inside to 2 degrees C outside means that I've got a lot of cooling happening for the first hour that the scope is out -- even with a 114-mm Newtonian or 102 mm Mak. I use that time to enjoy low-power sweeps across the sky. When the scintillation stops, it's time to crank up the power (or not). :-)
