You can make a tool for no money -- you don't have to buy one.  Any
35mm film canister (that most film-processing places are only too
happy to give away) can be made into a tool to keep your eye centered.

I don't advocate the use of lasers -- in fact in many people's hands
they do more harm than good.  Nils's article goes into this in some
detail.
