Are there parallel E-mail lists >and private groups that have good moderated or >self-moderated discussion without all the fringe Hi: The trolls and nutcases haven't taken over s.a.a., and _won't_ as long as committed amateurs remain here. And I don't think that's going to change. As for the condition of the group, it is actually very, very clean of spammers, trolls and loons compared to most of what's on Usenet. As for alternatives, I really like the Yahoo Groups, warts and all, which is why I host a few--too many ;-)--of them. So far, there's no overarching general interest forum like s.a.a. Most are a little more specialized like my own "SCT User". Phil Harrington's group, Talking Telescopes, is more general-interest oriented, but, with its focus on scopes, still more narrow than s.a.a. Explore the lists, they are great. BUT THEY ARE NOT A REPLACEMENT FOR S.A.A.! ;-) Peace, Rod Mollise Author of _Choosing and Using a Schmidt Cassegrain Telescope_ Like SCTs and MCTs?
