It uses small 3V "button" batteries used in some cameras, although 
Astrosystems has been selling their Rigels with external packs containing two 
"AA" batteries (I bought theirs).  I have had my Rigel since late July and the 
batteries show no signs of significant discharge (neither do the ones in my 
Telrad, and they have been inside for over *2 years*).  Clear skies to you.
