N.B. Gentle Readers: -------------------- 1. Kirsten Seaver's emotional tirade, reeking with sly innuendo, is NOT a SCHOLARLY REPLY in a peer-reviewed journal, but appears in a mass-media newspaper ---- Toronto's well-known, Left-Wing newspaper, _The Globe And Mail_. Doug Weller is severely misrepresenting the squib ---- as if it were a GENUINE scholarly reply. 2. Seaver's article is filled with sly misrepresentation, specious editorializing, rampant distortion, wishful thinking and sly innuendo ---- things that would never be permitted in a peer-reviewed scholarly article in a reputable academic journal. Why does Weller think such journals exist? 3. Jacqueline S. Olin's article *is* published in a peer-reviewed, reputable, scholarly publication ---- _Analytical Chemistry_. 4. Olin calls for additional scholarly investigations to determine the truth about the Vinland Map. 5. Seaver, _au contraire_, claims to have a Final Solution and a spicy CONSPIRATORIAL tale to entice the poguenoscenti ---- and yes, of course, it involves Evil Nazis and a Clever Roman Catholic Priest. It should make a great movie: "The map's brilliant cartographical conundrums, as well as its unintentional historic and linguistic mistakes point strongly to the only man capable of creating such a work between the 1920s and 1957, namely the German-Austrian cartographic historian Father Josef Fischer, who had ample opportunity to observe the Nazis' relentless twisting of cartography to fit their claims to a Greater Germany that was theirs by ancient "Nordic" right. He wanted to corner the Nazis: If they accepted his bogus map, they would have to accept the presence of the Roman Church in the New World." ---- Kirsten Seaver 6. That's "Coulda-Shoulda-Woulda" History at its worst. Seaver even sees Father Fischer as the ONLY MAN who could create such a clever forgery. This smacks of the Rover Boys or some Alfred Hitchcock thriller. Hilarious! 7. Ahhhh, but Seaver is flacking a forthcoming BOOK ---- NOW we understand. Publish Or Perish..... 8. Doug Weller also has a personal relationship with Kirsten Seaver and has often mentioned he corresponds with her. He has a dog in this fight ---- Hines does not. Hines wants only Lux, Veritas et Libertas. 9. Doug Weller has also NOT 'fessed up to his GAFFE and subsequent egregious PRATFALL over the issue of _PARCHMENT_ and _VELLUM_. Bad Show ---- that's not what a Gentleman and a Scholar is supposed to do. He's fallen in with bad company ---- and is trying to ignore his gaffe and sweep it under the rug. 10. Bottom Line: We need to follow through with the additional, qualified, professional analysis of INKS from KNOWN Mediaeval Documents which contain titanium compounds ---- as recommended by Olin. 11. We also need to rest considered judgements on peer-reviewed articles ---- not hyped, charlatanesque, left-wing newspaper articles designed to flack forthcoming books and create academic "media celebrities" ---- giving Kirsten Seaver her 15 minutes of fame.
