It is possible that they will start to lay. When that happens switch to layer rations. The usual train of thought is switch over gradually. Mix in 1/4 layer to grower for 2-3 days, 1/2 layer to grower for 2 and then 3/4 layer to grower for 2. Grower is higher in protien so it will not hurt the birds to switch. I just do a switch and don't have any problems. I like to use pellet rations, feeder at chest high, high enough so the birds can only get their heads into the feed area. This keeps them from "billing" out food all over. Chickens will throw food all over if given the chance. Crumble rations just seem to get wasted more. Might be esier to throw around as they go through alot more and I see it on the ground. I don't bother with scratch, its like giving them candy, and spoils their eating habbits. ( hmm just like kids) I keep oyster shell handy for extra calicum, free choice dispenser. Now if your talking meat birds I can fill you in on that as well. Last year I did 100 and this year 25 with less than 5% loss of birds.
