I don't worry at all now about leaving all out together - dogs ignore chickens, chickens move out of the way of fast-moving dogs. I swear this is why we're about the only people around here not to have suffered the trauma of losing chickens to mink. Mind you, it did take a bit of dog training to get to this happy state - one of the collies comes from a long line of working sheepdogs, and she wanted to herd the chooks, who didn't want to be herded at all! We only started keeping chickens last spring, and I suppose the dog acclimatisation took around 4 months. I'm not saying that all dogs will end up being safe with chickens, but I'm saying that some will, and it's not written in stone that the two don't mix. If my dogs ever let me down and decide to eat the chooks, I'll let you know! (But I don't think it's going to happen) Jo --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
