Here without stimulative feeding there is no surplus of honey from maple through fruit bloom. Feeding easily doubles my yield and allows time in the late summer and fall to deal with miticides. Feeding about 25lbs sugar worth of syrup will allow you to make a split or pull a strong nuc, in fact along with requeening pulling a split and putting drawn comb in helps deter swarming.
