No, a company called MDOT (can't seem to find it anymore) made a jet engine the size of a chicken egg (1.75" diameter, IIRC, and 2.5" long). It generated 1 to 1.5lbs of thrust. I worked with this engine for my final undergrad design project, so this engine was available c1997. I suppose the company has folded, been absorbed, or renamed in the intervening years.
