One big drawback of such backpacks is that if engine fails, you have a REAL problem. Human body does not have enough lift for glide, jetpack will not autorotate. If engine fails, or you run tank dry while you're still in air, you're hurting, maybe dead. Another problem. There is no vertical stability. Admittedly very small jets have better spoolup (throttle response), but it can still be a problem- good throttle response is necessary to get these things to fly without pilot being absolute world's hottest pilot.
