Mr G. Lee Sorry, a bit off topic, but I've always wanted to ask a westwind pilot this. Why is final segment speed not the same as holding speed ? After all, the Westwind AFM defines holding speed as "max endurance", which implies minimum drag, which implies best climb angle speed. Yet V fs is well above V hold. Further, V fs should then be slightly less than V hold, due to the allowance of engine loss, asymetric thrust and rudder drag. My only explanation is that V fs is not best climb angle. After all, there's no certification (that I can find) that requires this. Although on other aircraft, it seems the manufacturers have taken advantage of this to get best gradient on the final segment Stan
