Or does it get compressed before going to disk? DV output is uncompressed. There are many formats (e.g. DivX, XViD) that will compress your video to store more on your CD-R as a data CD. Also, making a DVD, VCD, or SVCD compresses the data as well, in varying amounts. Try going to doom9.org and read up on how to do this.
